Weston’s One World After-School Programs
 
Weston Youth Services is pleased to offer After-School programs for students in Grades 6-8 at Weston Middle School.  Please note that enrollment is limited in order to keep class size small and classes will be filled on a first-come, first -served basis
 
Registration:
Online registration will open on Tuesday, November 12th at 10:01 p.m. If a program is full, you still may register and your child's name will automatically be placed on the wait-list (No payment is required at this time). If space does become available, you will be notified via email.
 
If your child was waitlisted from a program in the fall, and that class is being offered in the winter, you will have the opportunity to register only for that class from 10:01 p.m. on Wednesday, November 6th through 11:59 p.m. on Thursday November 7th.  If you do not register during this early registration period, we cannot guarantee your child a space in that class.  A link will be emailed to any individuals eligible for early registration.
 
Important Note: If you do not have an account established with Weston Youth Services, you will need to set up an account online once the registration systems opens at 10:01 p.m. on Tuesday, November 12th
The system will ask for your email address and generate a temporary password which will then be emailed to you so you can proceed with registration.
 
Fees:
Please see each course listing for specific fees. ALL materials are included in class fee.
Financial Aid is available; please contact Allison Lisbon, Director of Social Services,
at 203-222-2663 if you would like to inquire about assistance.
 
Payment:
  • ALL payments must be made online by credit card via our secure site.
 
  • Full payment of program fees must be made within twenty-four (24) hours of registration.  The system has been set up to automatically delete unpaid registrations after twenty-four (24) hours.   When a registration has been deleted due to non-payment, a system-generated email will be sent stating:
 
"This is a notification that the registration for (registrants first name and last initial) has been deleted due to non-payment on (date and time that registration was deleted).”
 
Refund:
Once a class begins, we do not issue refunds or credits. If you cancel your child’s registration prior to the start of a program, you will be charged a $25.00 administrative and processing fee.
                       
Program Dates:
Please check individual programs for dates.
 
Class Length:
Please check individual programs for descriptions, room assignments, start dates, and program end times.
 
Dismissal:
Students will be dismissed from the front entrance doors. Please be prompt in picking up your child as our instructors have commitments after class.

Important information:
 
  • In the event of an early dismissal due to inclement weather or any other school emergency, all after-school programs will be cancelled and children will be sent home per regular school dismissal plans. In the event of a cancellation, we will send a reminder via email and also post this information on the Weston Youth Services website. We will make every effort to make up missed classes due to cancellations.
  • There is no nurse on duty after normal school hours. In the event of illness or emergency treatment, we will call 911 and then contact parents, or the emergency contact if necessary. If your child has any special medical needs, please contact Charlene Monn at 203-222-2586 prior to the start of the session.
  • Weston Youth Services reserves the right to cancel a class due to lack of student enrollment.
  • If a student is dismissed for disciplinary reasons or withdraws from the school or the program, the entire program fee is forfeited.

Monday Program
8–week session
January 6th - March 9th (no class on January 20th and February 17th)
 
NEW! Sports Management
Maximum # of participants: 12 students
Fee: $ 160.00
Location: C-24
Time: 2:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
 
For the sports lover, future team General (GM), sports team owner or ESPN analyst, this unique class will “show you the money” in sports!
 
Students will learn the business side of various sports and actively discuss and analyze a different “sports money” topic every class, including:
  • Which sports teams have the highest dollar market value?
  • How do teams in the NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL make money?
  • Endorsements: From Michael Jordan to LeBron James
  • How should Under Armour compete against Nike?
  • How do collective bargaining agreements determine player salaries in pro sports?
  • What’s “the money picture” in individual sports like golf or tennis?
  • Why do some pro athletes go bankrupt after making millions?
  • How much money do top college football programs raise for the school?
Note: Students must bring an electronic device with them to class each week.

Tuesday Program
10–week session
January 7th – March 10th
 
New! Battles and Beyond
Maximum # of participants: 12 students
Fee: $ 170.00
Location: Room C-20
Time: 2:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
 
Step into the past with Battles and Beyond!  In this 10-week program, students will travel back in time to learn about key battles in history. We'll learn about the tactics and strategies used in a specific battle, and imagine what it was like living during that time. We'll divide into small groups and recreate the various battles with different decisions and strategies than the Generals made at that time and see what the new outcome may have been if we fought in the battle. 
 
Instructor:
Dan Starbuck Pelletier has been teaching soccer, chess and history in the Weston area for seven years. Many know Coach Dan and his program, DIG USA, where he has worked with thousands of kids around Connecticut. He has been featured in the Hartford Courant, Connecticut Post, Norwalk Hour and on Fox 61. His focus is on having fun while learning in a positive environment.
 
 
Wednesday Program
8-week session
January 8th – March 4th (no class on February 12th)
 
NEW! Junior CEOs
Maximum # of participants: 12 students
Fee: $ 160.00
Location: C-24
Time: 2:30-3:30 p.m.
 
How cool would it be for you to be the boss of Apple or Tesla for a day? In this leadership class, you can! Students act as CEOs for leading companies and work in groups to make strategic recommendations to address real business issues.
 
Case studies include:
  • Apple: How to expand in China
  • Under Armour: How to compete with Nike
  • Amazon: Delivering packages with drones
  • Coke: Coping with declining soda consumption
  • Ube: Should we raise driver commissions?
  • Tesla: Direct sales model vs car dealers
  • McDonalds: Turning around the golden arches
Note: Students must bring an electronic device to class with them each week.

Sitter Safety Course
Maximum # of participants: 20 students
Fee: $ 90.00 (per session)
Location: Room F-5 (Health Room)
Time: 2:30 p.m.-3:45 p.m.
 
Students may choose to register for any of the following Wednesday sessions:
  • February 26th – March 25th
  • April 22nd – May 20th
 
Weston Youth Services is excited to again offer four sessions of the Sitter Safety course this academic year. Each course will cover:
  • American Heart Association (AHA) First Aid Certification along with Hands Only CPR
  • Infant and Toddler Child Care
  • Emergency Situations
  • Child Development and Behavior
 
The requirements to pass this course and to receive a certification are as follows:
  • Completion of attendance at all 5 sessions (unless parents notify course instructor)
  • Completion of a written final exam.
  • Supervised baby-sitting in-Service Project with the return of completed questionnaires.
